Obituary: Rev. Edwin James Mutum
Rev. Edwin J. Mutum, 58, a resident of Erie, Illinois died on Monday, December 22, 2008 at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus in Silvis, Illinois after suffering an apparent heart attack while shoveling snow at his home.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 27, 2008 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 1809 Mississippi Blvd., Bettendorf, Iowa. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for the Edwin Mutum Memorial Fund. Interment will be private.
Edwin James Mutum was born in Davenport, Iowa on October 8, 1950, the son of Clifford H. & Anna Marie (Schenpolk) Mutum.
He was a 2000 graduate of the Dubuque Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa and served Methodist churches in Calamus, Iowa, Grand Mound, Iowa, DeWitt, Iowa, the Asbury United Methodist Church of Bettendorf and the Community of Joy also of Bettendorf. In addition, he was the pastor, life coach and founder of “Reaching For Higher Ground Ministries.” Ed was a remarkable man who touched countless people over the years with his ministry of love, friendship, understanding & compassion. He spent countless hours traveling and speaking to so many people throughout the United States and Canada with his beloved AA family delivering his message of hope.
In Ed’s own words, “Please, please make this a celebration of all the good things that happened in my life, regardless of how I have died and how grateful I am to the Glorious God who created us all. Without finding Jesus Christ, I would have been lost many years ago.”
Those left to honor Ed’s memory include his daughter, Belin Mutum of Long Beach, California; his sons, Mike (Shelly) Ortega of Davenport, Vechi Mutum of Long Beach and Erick Mutum of Long Beach; his grandchildren, Hannah, Blain, Bailey, Brianna & Alexis; his sisters, Dorothea McSparin of Fortville, Indiana, Ellen Thornton of Huntsville, Alabama and Daisy (Mick) Bruce of Hayward, Wisconsin; his brother, George (Marti) Burk of Newberry, South Carolina; several nieces & nephews; many wonderful friends and his special love, Stacy.
His parents, Clifford & Marie and his brothers Charles & Jon preceded him in death.
