Jack L. Jones, 81, a retired Davenport police officer, died on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 22, 2011 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf. He will be laid to rest at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.
He was born October 29, 1929 in Davenport, the son of John & Margaret (Lange) Jones, was a 1948 graduate of Davenport High School and was a member of the U.S. Navy Reserve for twelve years. On September 3, 1949, he was united in marriage to Gerri Bormann at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church of Davenport.
Jack was a member of the Davenport Police Department for 32 years, retiring as a Corporal in 1987. He was a member of the Davenport Police Association and the Davenport Police Union Local #2.
He loved to play golf, enjoyed fishing and was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs. Playing cards with his beloved family was also a favorite activity of Jack’s.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife of nearly 62 years, Gerri; his daughters, Judith Jones and Jill A. (Brian L.) Utter, all of Davenport; a grandson whom he raised, Todd M. (Valerie) Jones of New Orleans, Louisiana; other grandchildren, Amy Jones, Brian C. (Jenifer) Utter, Scott (Laura) Utter, Brad (Erin) Utter and Matthew Jones & his fiancé, Carrie Cano; his great-grandchildren, Cory, Cody, Kaley, Baily, Brandon, Brent, Austin, Kylie, Madeline, Cameron, Ben, Abigail, Mason & Matthew; and his sister, Ruth Frisch of Cary, Illinois.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law, Rodney A. Byars.
