Aaltje Francisca Hendrika “Lidy” Overbeeke, 94, of Bettendorf, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2023, at The Fountains surrounded by her family.

A private family burial will be held at a later date. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Lidy was born on October 15, 1928, in Indonesia.  She later settled in Holland with her father, Arend Hogeveen. She attended school in the Netherlands and continued her education in nursing. Lidy worked as a nurse in a psychiatric institution in Delft, Netherlands.

On December 24, 1952, she married Cornelis Jacobus Overbeeke, M.D. in Den Haag, Netherlands.  With the devastating effects of  WWII on the Dutch society, Cornelis  immigrated to Canada and soon sent for Lidy and their young son to join him.  They later immigrated to the United States, settling first in Colorado and later in Massachusetts.  Lidy and Cornelis were blessed with three more children, making them a family of six.

Lidy enjoyed life to the fullest, whether she was traveling, playing tennis, or spending time with her family.  She loved knitting, making clothes for her grandchildren, reading, and making and keeping a beautiful family home including taking care of the family pets. Lidy was an animal lover.  Lidy was particularly proud of her Dutch heritage.

Those left to honor her memory are her children, John (Jane) Overbeeke, Addy (Paula Sharon) Overbeeke, Marilyn Jane Overbeeke and Cornell Overbeeke; her grandchildren, Sean (Dr. Tara) Overbeeke, Adam (Jennifer Campbell) Overbeeke, Brian (Nadine Fortuin ) Overbeeke, Christa (Matt) Phillips, Sara (Nick) Kinzenbaw, Francesca Overbeeke, Dane Brophy, Raegan Overbeeke, Maizy Overbeeke, and Kennedy Overbeeke; and her great-grandchildren, Claire and Henry Overbeeke, Oliver, Theo, and Penelope Kinzenbaw, and Juliana Overbeeke.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Hans Hogeveen.
