Alan F.
Ohl
Sep 14, 1935 — Sep 22, 2026
Bettendorf
Alan F. Ohl, 91, of Bettendorf, Iowa, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, surrounded by the comfort of the home he loved.
A funeral service celebrating Alan’s life will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park, where military honors will be accorded. Memorials may be made to the family.
Alan was born on September 14, 1935, in Davenport, the son of Elvin and Melva Ohl. He graduated from Davenport High School and later attended Blackhawk College in East Moline, Illinois.
On February 27, 1954, Alan married the love of his life, Janet M. McAninch, in Davenport. Together they shared nearly 50 years of marriage and built a family filled with memories. Janet preceded him in death on March 24, 2003, and Alan carried her memory with him throughout the years that followed.
Alan proudly served his country as a U.S. Army veteran. He went on to spend 35 years working as a machinist at French & Hecht Company in Davenport before retiring. He took great pride in his work and in the many years he devoted to his career.
Outside of work, Alan enjoyed the simple pleasures that made life special. He was an avid bowler and looked forward to participating in the annual BIX 7 for many years. Above all, though, family was at the center of Alan’s world. His grandchildren brought him tremendous joy, and he cherished every opportunity to spend time with them. He also had a special place in his heart for his beloved dogs, who were faithful companions and an important part of his life.
Alan will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Julie Ohl of Bettendorf; his son, Steve (Debi) Ohl of Greenview, Illinois; fifteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren, with two more expected soon; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Alan’s long life was filled with family, hard work, service, laughter, and countless memories. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and in the generations that follow.
Condolences may be expressed to the family by viewing Alan’s obituary at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home.
