Alberta J.
Gilbert
February 13, 1936 – May 6, 2026
Alberta J. Gilbert, 90, a lifelong resident of Eldridge, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at Grand Haven Retirement Community, where she had recently made her home.
Alberta was born on February 13, 1936, in Eldridge, the daughter of E.E. "Joe" and Lois (Oetzmann) Porter. On January 7, 1956, she married Dennis Fahrenkrog in Davenport. Later, on November 1, 2000, she was united in marriage to Delmar A. Gilbert in Davenport. Delmar preceded her in death on June 21, 2022.
Alberta was known for her strong work ethic. Over the years, she worked in promotional sales merchandise and, in earlier years, co-owned the former Fahrenkrog Oil Company in Eldridge. She took great pride in helping celebrate the town she loved, serving as Co-Chairperson for both the Eldridge Centennial and Bicentennial celebrations.
She had a creative heart and enjoyed teaching ceramics for many years, sharing both her talent and friendship with many others. Alberta also treasured time spent playing bridge with her many dear friends. One of her proudest honors came during the Eldridge Sesquicentennial Celebration, when she was recognized as the oldest woman born and raised in Eldridge who had spent her entire life there.
More than anything, Alberta cherished her family and the many friendships she built over the years. Those left to honor and treasure her memory include her daughter, Keri (Eric) Boel of Grimes, IA; her sons, David (Dianne) Fahrenkrog of Sherrard , IL and Randy (Carol) Fahrenkrog of Bayfield, WI; eight grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; her sister, Vicki Haulk of Eldridge; her brother, Richard Porter of Sun City; and several special nieces and nephews.
Her family will remember Alberta for her love of home, family, and community.
As per Alberta's request, there will be no visitation or funeral service.
