Barbara White

Barbara S. White, 77, of DeWitt. passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA.

Barbara S. Wheeler was born on May 2, 1948, in Ashland, IL, the daughter of Hubert and Scharline (Humphrey) Wheeler. She married Thomas E. White on October 11, 1968, in Jacksonville, IL. He preceded her in death on April 6, 2021.

First and most important was she loved Jesus Christ as her Savior and loved serving in the churches she was a member of throughout her life. Barb worked a variety of jobs from having in-home childcare while her children were young. From there she was a nursery care worker at Berean Baptist Academy/Daycare, Springfield, IL, while her kids attended school there. Next, she became a secretary for Flowers Sanitation Service in Virden, IL for many years.

She loved spending time with her husband, Tom, riding his motorcycle, camping, boating on the lake, and spending time with family and friends. She loved watching her grandkids, Cody and Caty grow up before moving to Iowa to watch her granddaughters, Abby and Taylor grow up. She loved spending time with all 4 grandchildren and her 2 children throughout the years. Some of her hobbies were quilting, crocheting, reading and puzzles.

Survivors include her daughter, Paula Mess of Camanche, Iowa, son, Christopher White of Springfield, Illinois, grandchildren, Cody and Caty White, and Abby and Taylor Mess, and her dog, Punky.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Thomas in 2021, son-in-law David Mess, March 2025, 1 sister and 4 brothers.
