Beverly Lake

November 14, 1933 — December 19, 2022

Beverly A. Lake, 89, of Davenport passed away Monday, December 19, 2022, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date at Faith Lutheran Church, Eldridge, Iowa.  Inurnment will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery at a later date.  Memorials may be directed to the family.  McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Beverly was born November 14, 1933, in Macomb, Illinois, to Howard Benton and Violet Marie (Gorsuch) Tumey.  She was a graduate of Wilton High School (Iowa), where she played girl’s 3-on-3 basketball.  On November 25, 1950 she married Dean Birkhofer in Wilton.  She later married Larry Lake on November 26, 1976 in Bettendorf.  Throughout her life, she lived in Iowa, Colorado, California, and Arizona.  Beverly worked as a department store manager in California and later in the cafeteria at North Scott High School in Eldridge.  She enjoyed playing board games and cards with her family, golfing with her husband Larry, knitting, painting, and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs.

Those left to honor her memory are her sons, Mick (Brenda) Birkhofer and Thomas (Lori) Birkhofer, all of Bettendorf; nine step-children, Vicky Guffey of Phoenix, Arizona, Jill (Jeff) Stringham of Pine, Arizona, Kim Catalano of Davenport, Jack (Leanne) Lake of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, Lisa Murphy of Eagan, Minnesota, Susan (Stuart) Adam of Palm Beach, Florida, Jennifer (Doug) Lamont of Long Grove, Iowa, Kari (Jeff) Lake Halperin of Phoenix, Lori (Thomas) Birkhofer of Bettendorf; 25 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Patty Sorgenfrey and Sharon Boron.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of 33 years, Larry; and siblings, Deanna, William, Don, Dean, and Thomas.
