Bonnie Ellen Cooley, 83, a cherished member of the Buffalo community, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at her home surrounded by her family.
Born on January 22, 1942 in Davenport to Edward and Winoka (Phillips) Awbrey. She graduated from Bettendorf High School in 1960. On June 2, 1962, she married Stanley Cooley. Their union was blessed with three children.
Bonnie never met a stranger and was known for her warm smile and unwavering kindness. Before staying home to raise her children, she owned and operated Buffalo Cafe. She later worked at Mississippi Bend Area Education Agency, William Raising Accounting and Tax Service and Scott Community College before retiring in 2012. She was also a member of Sovereign Grace Missionary Baptist Church.
In her free time, Bonnie enjoyed spending time with her family & friends and especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling, baking deserts, reading, shopping and canning vegetables from her garden.
Bonnie's passion for helping others was evident through the countless hours she devoted to volunteering for the Buffalo Community Center and Meals on Wheels. She was also part of the Red Hat Society and was grateful for the many friends she made throughout the years.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Stanley and children, Michelle (Curtis) Maere, Fort Worth, Texas and Cameron Cooley, Buffalo, Iowa and son-in-law Joe Scott, Buffalo, Iowa. Grandchildren, Collin, Seth, Kade, Samuel, Ty, Lea, Kamber, Shane, and Kayla.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her loving daughter, Dawn Ellen Scott and her parents Edward and Winoka Awbrey as well as her brother, Dennis Awbrey.
A graveside service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Rose Hill Cemetery, Buffalo, Iowa.
In her honor, memorials can be made to Mercy One Genesis Hospice.
