Calvin M. “Cal” Klopp, 83, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at MercyOne Genesis in Davenport.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at Grandview Baptist Church in Davenport. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Private family burial will be at Oakridge Cemetery in Princeton, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to Hope at the BRICK House, for the purchase of a van. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Cal was born on April 24, 1942 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa the son of Orlan and Ruby (Kent) Klopp. In 1960, he graduated from Alburnett High School. He continued his education at Iowa State University, where he achieved his Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace engineering with the class of 1965.
On August 24, 1963, he married Ann Warning in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Cal began his career in aerospace engineering with Boeing in California, and later transferred within the company, to work in Seattle, Washington and at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida where he was a part of the Apollo Space Program team. In 1969, he and his family moved to the Quad Cities, where Cal worked as a mechanical engineer at the Rock Island Arsenal until his retirement in 2001. He then served as a paraprofessional with the Pleasant Valley school district until 2022. On June 13, 2009, Cal married Joyce Gibson in Tama, Iowa. In his spare time, Cal enjoyed volunteering at the BRICK House. He also enjoyed attending Bible study, meeting one-on-one with friends, working out at the Y, eating bananas, and making homemade ice cream for his family and friends.
Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Joyce Klopp of Davenport; his children, Diana (Jeffrey) Fassett of Tucson, Arizona and Jana (David) Bennett of Davenport; his daughter-in-law, Narelle (Tristan) McMahon of Eynesbury, Australia; three grandchildren, Eva Klopp, Emmanuel Klopp and Cora Bennett; his sister, Joanne DeLong of Waukee, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ann; his children, Daniel, Joel and Kristin Klopp; his sister and brother-in-law, Marlene (Albert) Myers; and his brother-in-law, Larry DeLong.
