Charles L. Duncan, 91, of Bettendorf, died Monday, February 7, 2005 at Trinity at Terrace Park, Bettendorf.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, February 11, 2005 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9128 of Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 A.M., Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or the ALS Foundation.
Charles LaVerne Duncan was born on August 19, 1913 in La Porte, Illinois, the son of Charles N. & Velma (Hare) Duncan. He was united in marriage to Juanita Crider on November 30, 1935 in Macomb, Illinois. Charles joined the U.S. Army as a military policeman in 1944 and was honorably discharged in 1946.
He was employed as a machinist at J. I. Case Company in Bettendorf retiring in 1979 after 36 years of service.
Additionally, Charles was an active member of the Davenport Masonic Lodge and worked the bingo tables at the Mohassan Grotto. Among the things he enjoyed were bowling, fishing & traveling. In addition, he had made over 100 hook rugs, enjoyed doing word finds and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 69 years, Juanita; his granddaughters and their husbands, Susan & Steven Garrett of Little Rock, Arkansas, Sheila & Tim Turner, of Houston, Texas and Mary & Bill Morse, also of Houston; and his niece Marajaleen Bell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Sharon Duncan-Sell in 1999; his sister, Laraine Bell in 1986; and his niece, Janet Whiteside earlier this year.
