Darlene L. Brundies, 81, of Davenport, died Friday, March 11, 2005 at her residence, surrounded by her family. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, March 14, 2005 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Davenport, where she was a member. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 P.M. to 6 P.M. at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 P.M. on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the family.
Darlene was born July 3, 1923, the daughter of Frank J. & Vergia L. (Trout) Dvorak. She was united in marriage to Elmer J. Brundies on May 1, 1941 in Kahoka, Missouri. He preceded her in death on April 25, 1995.
Darlene was employed as a bookkeeper and office manager at the former Elmer’s Appliance in Davenport for 35 years, where she worked alongside her husband. During the early 1950’s she was briefly a fashion model in Davenport. Darlene was a member of the Northwest Turner’s Boat Club in Davenport and the Plus 60 club of the Quad-Cities. She also provided meals for St. Anthony’s soup kitchen for many years. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles. Darlene also enjoyed camping, boating, and fishing. Additionally, she was an exceptional cook.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Carolyn Sue Russell, Davenport, Therese Brauer and her husband Steve, Bettendorf, and Julie Brundies and her companion, Kate Guimbellot, Fort Lauderdale, Florida; her sons, William and his wife, Beverly, San Bernardino, California, Steven and his wife, Michelle, Long Grove, Iowa, Robin and his wife, Diane, East Moline, Illinois, Ronnie and his fiancé Sherri Knapper, Davenport, Rick and his wife, Linda, Davenport, Jim and his wife, Marianne, Davenport, and John, Davenport; 21 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; her brother, Norman E. Dvorak, Davenport; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Helen Klingman, and her brothers, Donald and Frank Dvorak.
