Donald G. Collier

June 3, 1941 — January 7, 2024

 

          Donald G. Collier, 82, of LeClaire passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his family.

          A memorial visitation will be from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 14th at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf.  Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and burial will be at Glendale Cemetery at a later date.  Memorials may be directed to the family.

          Don was born on June 3, 1941 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of George and Alice (Gilbert) Collier.  He graduated from LeClaire High School in 1959.  On June 4, 1960, he married Sandra J. Gill in LeClaire.  Don was a proud member of Laborers’ Local 309 for over 30 years.  He retired in 1996.  He was an outdoorsman and loved camping, fishing, and bird watching.  Don enjoyed watching stock car racing and was an avid fan of NASCAR and the Green Bay Packers.

          Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Sandra Collier of LeClaire; son, Terry (Lori) Collier of Pleasant Valley; 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Jim Collier of LeClaire; son-in-law, Randy Dirks of Bettendorf; and numerous nieces and nephews.

          In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Becky Dirks; and sister-in-law, Colleen Collier.
