Donald L. Mott, 92, of Bettendorf, Iowa passed away Friday, November 3, 2023 at Clarissa Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until noon followed by Celebration of Life at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, November 10th at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Private burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery, in Rock Island, Illinois. Memorials may be directed to River of Life Church, Bettendorf.
Don was born August 15, 1931, to Carl Kenneth and Flossie Lea (Burk) Mott near Callao, Missouri. He is a 1948 Moline High School graduate. In 1951, while employed at International Harvester, he voluntarily enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. Don married Janet C. Koering in Rock Island on December 23, 1952. Blessed with 57 years of marriage, Janet died in 2009. Don’s proudest accomplishment is their four children. “Each one is totally different, each one is successful.”
After 30 years as a tool & die maker, Don retired from International Harvester in 1982. He was an active member of UAW Local 1304 and served many years on UAW Region 4, Skilled Trades Committee. Don was a member of River of Life Church for 40 years, serving as Treasurer and an Elder. A lifelong deer and turkey hunter, Don loved hunting with his kids and grandkids. He had a passion for shooting and teaching archery. Don spent decades “Mott-ifying” hundreds of bows for others.
He is survived by his children, Michael Mott of Keosauqua, Iowa; Ron Mott and Trine Breyholtz of Eldridge Iowa; Jim and Jeanne Mott of Morning Sun, Iowa; and Michelle ‘Missy’ and Christopher Juehring of Rock Island, Illinois; 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Don was preceded in death by two grandsons, Eirik-Andre Breyholtz-Mott and Donald L. Stegall.
