Doris Hargis

Doris "Eileen" Hargis, 97, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at Bickford Cottage in Davenport.

A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, March 27, 2022 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf, Iowa.  Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the services on Sunday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation or to the American Heart Association.

Doris was born on the family farm on January 1, 1925 in Brooks, Iowa, the daughter of Royce & Mildred (Howard) Walter.  She was united in marriage to Robert Clarke.  He preceded her in death in 1981.  She was later united in marriage to John Hargis.  He preceded her in death in 1996.

Doris had been a school teacher and a secretary in earlier years. She had enjoyed bowling and golfing and stock car races.  She also will be remembered for her garden and canning fruits and vegetables.  She will be missed dearly by her loving family and will be remembered for her laughter, her smile and her stories.

Those left to honor her memory include her grandchildren, Terry (Eric) Totherow of Bettendorf, Bobby (Cinda) Wright of Davenport, Stacey Ward of South Dakota, Wendy (Adam) Padavich of Davenport, Christine (Jason) Jones of New Windsor, Illinois, Jamie Wright of New Windsor, Johnathan (Amber) Lowry of New Boston, Illinois, Clarke Balvanz and Kerri Balvanz; fifteen great-grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren; her brother, Jerry (Donna) Walter of Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husbands, Doris was preceded in death by her daughters, Patricia Lowry, Denise Wright and Shirley Omart; and her siblings, MaryLou, Jean and Wayne.
