Doris Martens

Doris J. Martens, 90, of Davenport passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at Genesis Medical Center, Davenport.

Private family graveside services will be held at the Rock Island National Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Davenport.  McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Doris was born August 7, 1932 in Bettendorf, the daughter of Charles and Christine (Frederiksen) Siemens.  Following her graduation from Davenport High School, she earned her Bachelors degree from Northern Iowa University and her Masters degree from Marycrest International University.  On May 15, 1993 she was married to Donald L. Martens in Davenport.

Doris worked as an elementary teacher at various schools in Maquoketa, Waterloo, and Jefferson, Lincoln, and Grant Schools in Davenport.  She was a part time instructor at Marycrest University and taught with the summer program at Augustana College Speech and Hearing Center. In her younger years, she worked as a secretary for the Civil Service Board at McClellan AFB in Sacramento, California.  Among her many memberships were CASI, Quad Cities Plus-60 Club, Alpha Eta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, Pi Lambda Theta, Davenport Area Retired School Personnel, Iowa State Education Association, and Adler Ushers. Doris was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Davenport.

Those left to honor her memory are her daughters, Christine (Tony) Leemans of LeClaire, Megan Jasper of Palm Springs, California; her son, Joshua Jasper of Davenport; step-sons, Donald Martens Jr. of Pensacola, Florida, David Martens of Papillion, Nebraska, and Daniel (Brandy) Martens of Bellevue, Nebraska; 2 grandchildren, Michael and Brian Leemans; 14 step-grandchildren, Michael, Marie, Melanie, Christopher, Eric, Tonya, Emily, Jeannette,  Brian, Kaeleigh, Zachary, Connor, Hannah, and Brandan; and several great-grandchildren,.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her sister, Helen Margaret Siemens.
