Doris Louise Murray, 71, a resident of LeClaire, Iowa died on Friday, February 4, 2011 at Trinity Pathway Hospice in Bettendorf, Iowa following an extended illness.
Her memorial mass will be celebrated at 9:30 A.M. on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at Our Lady of the River Catholic Church, LeClaire, Iowa where she was a member. Following the service, friends are invited to join the family for refreshments in the church fellowship hall. The funeral procession will leave the church at 12:00 Noon for graveside rites at the Rock Island National Cemetery at 12:30 P.M. A memorial visitation for Doris will be from 4:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. on Monday, February 7, 2011 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
She was born September 12, 1939 in Brookline, Massachusetts, the daughter of John Patrick & Doris Louise (Comeau) Murphy. On August 31, 1957, she was united in marriage to James L Murray in Boston, Massachusetts. He preceded her in death on January 9, 2009.
Doris was a devoted Navy wife, a loving mother of four and in earlier years, worked as a cashier at Slagle’s Foods of LeClaire. In addition to the church, she was a member of the former LeClaire Lioness’ Club.
Among the things she enjoyed were crocheting, watching soap operas, reading and keeping in touch with friends with email. She loved seafood and will always be remembered by her family & friends as a true “people person.”
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Janet (Ken) Hill of Port Byron, Illinois and Vickie Gleason of LeClaire; her sons, Scott (Julie) Murray of LeClaire and James (Mary Anne) Murray of LeClaire; her grandchildren, Scott Murray Jr., Christina Murray, Stephanie Shook, Stacey Gilliland, James L. Murray III, Murphy Hill and Louis Hill; her great-grandchildren, Bailey, Tanner, Hunter, Kyle, Christopher, Kaiden & Branden; her sisters, Patricia (Edward) Nugent in Massachusetts and Elaine (David) Hughes in Massachusetts; and her sister-in-law, Louise Bishop in Massachusetts.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Michael Gleason; and her brother, John Murphy.
