Duane N. Machalek, 59, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at University Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 3, 2004 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Oakdale Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.
Duane was born October 5, 1944 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of William & Lucille (Pinard) Machalek and was a graduate of Bettendorf High School.
He retired in February of 2000 from John Deere Plow & Planter Works in Mt. Joy where he was employed as a welder.
Duane was a person who lived and enjoyed life to the fullest. He was an avid boater, a dedicated boxing fan, enjoyed drag racing, loved specialty cars and was affectionately known as a “gear-head”. Following his retirement, he, enjoyed traveling, especially to the Caribbean and Puerto Rico. Even though he is gone, the many wonderful & fun memories will live forever in the hearts of his family & many friends.
Those left to honor his memory include his children & their spouses, Marcus & Cathy Machalek of Davenport, their daughter, Lisa & her daughter, Brianna; Scott & Alice Machalek of Davenport & their children, Nevan & Cassandra; Amy & Ryan Taylor of Buffalo, Iowa & their son, Josh; and Cindy Brown of Davenport; his brothers, sisters & spouses, Darrell & Jean Machalek of LeClaire, Iowa & their children, Darrell Jr., Deon, Wendy, Lori, Connie & Lisa; Georgia Cole in Kentucky & her children, Megan, Shari & Daryl; Sid & Brenda Machalek of Rock Island, Illinois and their children, Arminda & Tim; and Taina & John Machalek of Rock Island and their children, Michael & Gabrielle; and many wonderful & special friends.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents; and by his Uncle Gordon.
