Ed was born on December 22, 1932 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Earl and Ann Dorothy DePooter. After graduating from Davenport High School in 1951, he started his job as a pattern maker at John Deere Foundry. He left there to serve in the U.S. Army for two years.

Ed was united in marriage to Dolores A. Feldpausch on August, 20, 1955. He worked for Deere for 41 total years, retiring in 1992. After retirement, he worked for Smith-Filter Corporation in Moline for 10 years.

Ed was very active. He was a volunteer fireman. He was also a member of the Men’s Bowling Association, attending many of their national tournaments. He enjoyed fishing in all types of weather, as well as hunting. And, he rarely missed heading out in the morning for his daily walk around the neighborhood. Ed also loved to visit his favorite casinos, and he enjoyed spending time with family and his many friends. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church for almost 60 years.

Ed had a great love for sports. Some of his proudest moments came from his days playing sports. In high school, he was on the State Championship basketball team, and he won the pole vault at the Drake Relays. As a father, he coached his son’s Little League team. Over the years, he continued to follow his kids and his grandkids in all their sports activities and was their biggest cheerleader. In his eyes, there was also nothing better than a win for the Iowa Hawkeyes or Chicago Bears.
