Elizabeth A. Hoag

July 31, 1944 — April 26, 2025

Long Grove

Betty (Elizabeth Ann) Hoag, 80, has been called to her heavenly reward on April 26, 2025 after her second courageous battle with cancer.

Betty spent nearly her whole life in Long Grove, Iowa. First, with her parents, Charles H. and Alice M. Loussaert, and also after marrying Jack R. Hoag on April 5, 1963. It was there she raised three children: Scott, Kelli and Tammy. She also took care of multiple dogs, cats, hamsters, birds, fish and even a couple toads.

Betty was born July 31, 1944 in Sioux City, Iowa and at the age of two she was adopted. Years later, she would find her birth mom, Helen (Cinkovich) Erasmus. Then many years later, Ancestry.com would lead her to her biological father’s family. Having the complete picture meant so much. She loved all sides of her family.

Family was everything to Betty. Her family gatherings were events, especially Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and the Strawberry Festival. The house would be filled with all of her children and grandchildren. No one could resist her turkey (named "Henrietta" by Betty) lasagna, homemade potato salad or strawberry shortcake.

Some best memories with Betty include staying up half the night playing darts and talking while watching a PBS “church lady”, hunting for “treasures” in thrift stores, “secret” Grandma visits after school being served bologna sandwiches, wavy potato chips and off brand cherry vanilla pop, seeing Grandma during lunch at school, running to Grandma’s house instead of to the finish line during the Strawberry Stampede when a storm hit, catching fireflies in the summer, being made to feel special even when the house was full of people, busting her knee in a super-soaker fight with the grandchildren, trying to find the "elevator" in Grandma's house, and so many more memories that are way too many to list.

Betty was loved by many outside her family. She maintained decades-long friendships, including neighbors and former co-workers from her time as a food server at North Scott schools. Away from work, Betty took pride in keeping a clean, well-organized home and maintaining a flawless checkbook.

Betty worked hard, but enjoyed many simple pleasures including, flower gardens, word puzzles, Judge Judy, Tweety Bird, Sparkly greeting cards and sparkly rocks, Happy Joe's sausage pizza, McDonald’s burgers and fries, a great bargain, and last, but not certainly least, the Cubs.

She leaves behind her husband, Jack; son, Scott Hoag (Linda) and daughters Kelli Hoag (Jack Spinello) and Tammy Hoag-De La Cruz; eight grandchildren, Karisa, Kayla, Noah, Autumn, Kyle, Ethan, Aaron, Rylee; and a very extensive family including siblings, step grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many, many cousins.

A private burial will be held for family and close friends at St.Ann’s Catholic Cemetery in Long Grove, Iowa. A memorial “party” is being planned for a later date.
