Emma Marie Haertjens

Emma Marie Haertjens, 95, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Monday, January 28, 2008 at her home.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, February 1, 2008 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Davenport, Iowa where she was a member.
She was born June 28, 1912 in Wiota, Wisconsin, the daughter of Ralph & Lena (Voigts) Biederbeck. On February 26, 1952, she was united in marriage to Rene Haertjens in Nashua, Iowa. He preceded her in death on October 18, 1983.
Emma was a country schoolteacher in Jo Davies County, Illinois for twelve years. After coming to the Quad-Cities, she worked as a checker at the former A & P Grocery Store in Davenport for sixteen years.
She enjoyed caring for her home and feeding the birds in her yard.
Those left to honor her memory include nieces & nephews, including Fred & Naomi Haertjens of Davenport, Iowa.
In addition to her husband, her sister, Hazel Smithburg; and 3 infant children preceded her in death.
