Eugene Freeman, 93, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice house, surrounded by his family

A time of visitation and remembrance will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2026, from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Inurnment will take place in the spring at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island.

He was born in Rome, Iowa on May 18, 1932, the son of William and Greta (Dold) Freeman. On December 28, 1952, he was united in marriage to Shirley M. Riggs in Fairfield. She preceded him in death on August 3, 2017. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956.

Eugene worked beside his brother Larry at Mills Chevrolet as a mechanic for 36 years, retiring in 1994. He and his brother Larry also worked on cars in his garage.

He enjoyed stock car racing, fishing, restoring cars and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Those left to honor his memory include his children, Bill Freeman of Newburgh, Indiana, Debbie (Dan) Winslow and Linda (Randy) Houston, both of LeClaire, Iowa; his grandchildren, Nicole and William Freeman; Randy, Matt, Derek and Steffane Winslow; and Zach, Bryant and Lindsay McElhiney; eleven great-grandchildren a brother Larry (Mary Maxine) Freeman of Bettendorf, and former daughter-in-law, Diane Freeman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Shirley, two sisters and one brother.
