Funeral services for George “Joe” Franklin Valentine Jr., 89, of Bettendorf, will be 1:30 pm on Monday, August 31, 2026, at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf, IA. Burial will follow at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery, Davenport, IA. Family will greet friends on Monday from 12:00 pm to service time at the funeral home.
George “Joe” passed away on Monday, August 24, 2026, at his home in Bettendorf, IA.
George “Joe” was born on July 13, 1937, in Davenport, IA, the son of George and Alice (Fleshe) Valentine. He graduated from Central High School in 1955. He married Genevieve M. Hoffstetter in November of 1978 in Bettendorf, IA. He worked as a Crane Operator for Sivyer Steel and then as a plumber for Petersen Plumbing, Davenport. He served in Navy Seebees, also serving the Bettendorf Auxiliary Police Dept, he was a member of the Izaak Walton League, Oak Hills Gun Club, Blue Grass, Bi-State Gun Club, Colona, IL, the National Rifle Association, and the Steel Workers Union. He enjoyed trap shooting, boating, fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Genevieve of Bettendorf, his children, Greg (Roxanne Marchase) Valentine of E. Moline, IL, Scott (Elaine Ryan) Shirley of Scottsdale, AZ, Carol Rauscher of Longmont, CO, grandchildren, Piper, Chad, Carly, Dylan, brother, Clark (Lindsay) Valentine of Laguna Beach, CA, niece, Margaret (Vince) Barrett of Bettendorf, IA and Nephew, Ben (Sarah) Valentine of CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Patrick Valentine and grandson, Nicholas Rauscher.
Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Scott County Humane Society.
