Davenport

Gladys Mae Hintz, 97, of Davenport, Iowa died on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at her home.

          

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 3775 Middle Rd. in Bettendorf.  Visitation will be from 5:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at the church.  Private family graveside services will be held at the Rock Island National Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church.  McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.

          

Gladys was born to Lydia (Hornecker) and Harold Johnson in Geneseo, Illinois on May 10, 1926.

          

She attended eight grades at a one-room school in Osco Township, Illinois and graduated from Geneseo High School in 1944.

          

Gladys was united in marriage to Arthur Hintz of Galva, Illinois on March 19, 1948 at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Geneseo.  After Art graduated from the University of Illinois, they settled in the Bettendorf-Davenport area and lived there since 1957.

          

She was a faithful and active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church for 67 years serving on many boards and committees.  Gladys volunteered at Genesis Medical Center, the Discovery Shop and the Davenport Lutheran Home.

          

She had a short career with Von Maur as a Ladies Coat Buyer.  Gladys enjoyed playing bridge and socializing with her many beloved friends.

          

She is survived by her children, David (Sherry) Hintz of Spring Hill, Tennessee and Barbara (Gregg) Strode of Santa Clarita, California; her grandchildren, Justin (Missy) Hintz, Chad (Kathi Tuers) Hintz, Sarah Strode and Emily Strode (& her fiancé, Josh Shambaugh); and her great grandson, Dean Robert Hintz.

          

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Virgil Johnson.

          

The family thanks many of Gladys’ friends for their prayers and help during her illness and a special thank you to Lois Manor for her love and friendship.
