Gustavus Bruun Jr.

Gustavus A. “Gust” Bruun Jr., 91, of Davenport passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at the Davenport Lutheran Home.

Per his wishes, Gust will be laid to rest with his wife, Janet, at a private family graveside service that will be held at Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport. Memorials may be directed to Gilda’s Club of the Quad Cities.  McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Gust was born on January 24, 1931 in Mellon, Wisconsin, the son of Gustavus and Melissa (Lawver) Bruun Sr.  He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict.  On March 17, 1958 he married Janet M. Price in Burlington, Iowa.  In his earlier years, he worked in various trades including construction work, ranch hand and horse training, sandblasting, and as a pallet builder for S.A. Pallets.  Prior to his retirement in 2003, Gust worked in circulation and distribution at the Quad City Times.  In his spare time he loved to fish and was a very talented artist, known for his paintings and drawings.

Those left to honor his memory are his daughters, Gussie (Tom) Sorensen Sr. of Papillion, Nebraska, Betty (Scott) Zeiner of Davenport, Tammy (James) Stout of Cordova, Illinois, Eva Aaronson of Rock Island, Illinois, and Theresa (Steve) Van Patten of Davenport; 11 grandchildren, Krysta (Curtis) Lange, Tom (Sheree) Sorensen, Mae (Drew) Richardson, Jess (Izzy) Poole, Maria (Crystal) Gilbraith-Clements, Gilley (Sarah Irwin) Gilbraith, Connor Stewart, Ripley (Ethan Rush) Stewart, Rowan Van Patten, Joy Van Patten, and Carl (Holly) Rauch; numerous great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janet; a daughter, Melissa Bruun; and siblings, Betty Northrop and Richard Bruun.
