James Lee Stoefen

Private family graveside services for James Lee Stoefen, 87, of Davenport, will take place at a later date at Walcott Cemetery, Walcott, Iowa. 

 

James passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024, at Wheatland Manor, Wheatland, Iowa. 

 

James was born on January 28, 1937, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of LeRoy and Bernice (Danielsen) Stoefen. James spent his early years in rural New Liberty and attended Durant Schools. He married Jo-Ann Levetzow in Walcott, Iowa on April 14, 1956. She preceded him in death on October 29, 2018. He worked at Alcoa in the platemill. After 21 years, he retired in 1999. 

 

James enjoyed collecting toy tractors, fishing in Wisconsin, and anything farming. He loved going to the donut store to meet his friends.  James daily favorite meal was ice cream. His boxer Sugar brought him much joy. 

 

Survivors include his children, Janet Stoefen of Davenport, Jerry (Susan) Stoefen of New Liberty, Iowa, Joyce Morrison of Maysville, Iowa, five grandchildren, Jacob (Anne) Stoefen, Matthew Stoefen (Troy Stark), Jevon (Karen) Hinkley, Joseph (Victoria) Stoefen, Samuel Morrison, and four great grandchildren Joie Stoefen, Jackson Stoefen, Victoria Hinkley, James (Hannah) Hinkley. His surviving in-laws Betty Levetzow, Carl (Darlene) Rahlf, Carol Hess, Ruth Behan, Carol Ann Levetzow, and Viola Levetzow. And many nieces and nephews. 

 

        He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Jo-Ann and his in-laws Arthur and Malinda (Holling) Levetzow. Preceding him were his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Elsie and Walter Quick, Earl Levetzow, Elmer and Betty Noll, Ralph Levetzow, William Hess, Harvey Levetzow, and Walter and Arline Levetzow.
