Jeffrey Tharp Sr, of Blue Grass, passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at his home in Blue Grass, IA. 

Family will greet friends on Saturday August 10th, from 9:30 am until service at 11:30, at Community Fellowship Church, 701 South Oak Lane, Blue Grass . Burial to follow at Blue Grass Cemetery. Feel free to wear Crocs, Iowa Hawkeye and St. Louis Cardinal gear to honor Jeff.

Jeffrey was born on October 1, 1955, in Davenport, the son of Charles and Patse (Conklin) Tharp. He graduated from Bettendorf High School in 1973. He then attended St. Ambrose College where he received a degree in Mass Communications in 1977. 

He married Jaquelyn Sweeney (Douglas) in Blue Grass on June 28, 1980. He worked at the Quad City Times as copy editor. He then worked at the U.S. Postal Office in Milan, retiring in 2017. 

Jeff loved to make people laugh with his quirky sense of humor. He made people feel welcome at church. He loved his Bettendorf Bulldogs, golfing, fishing, going to the Iowa Hawkeye Football and St. Louis Cardinals Baseball games. He traveled with his wife to Alaska, Hawaii, Florida, Texas and South Carolina, as well as numerous trips to Branson, MO. He and his wife loved and attended oldies concerts. 

Jeffrey was a member of Community Fellowship Church, Blue Grass.

Survivors include wife, Jackie, of Blue Grass, IA., sons, Jeffrey Jr. (Megan) Tharp of Davenport, Jason Sweeney of Grimes, IA, seven grandchildren and a sister, Vicki (Dennis) Tharp-Petersen of Davenport.

He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Tamara Sweeney Bohland.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
