John C. Brand, 70, of Long Grove, Iowa passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2026 at his residence.

      Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and a private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge, is assisting the family with arrangements. 

      John was born on March 8, 1956 in North Hollywood, California, the son of William and Emmajean (Thompkins) Brand. Following his graduation from Pleasant Valley High School in 1974, he joined the U.S. Navy where he served for eight years in the Antarctic Rescue Division. After his honorable discharge, John traveled the world working in various positions. He later returned to Iowa and served on the Davenport Fire Department for 23 years. John was also an avid motorcycle enthusiast. 

      Those left to honor his memory are his sister, Carolann Ferkel of Eldridge; numerous nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Jennifer Means of Eldridge. 

      He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Kathy Morlang, Nina Sivak, Leon Starburg, and Sharon Bannas.
