John E. Glunz, 76, of Eldridge, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, November 12, 2005 at Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Friday evening at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Eldridge Volunteer Fire Department.
John was born September 14, 1929 in rural LeClaire, Iowa, the son of John & Frieda A. (Marxen) Glunz. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and was honorably discharged.
John retired in 1987 from the Caterpillar Works in Davenport. In earlier years, he had driven for Glunz Trucking, he served as the Marshall and the Director of Public Works in Eldridge, and he volunteered for the Eldridge Fire Department.
His memberships include American Legion Post 639 in Eldridge.
Among the things John enjoyed were coin collecting, trout fishing, camping, and cooking.
Those left to honor his memory include his brother and sister-in-law, Walter & Arlene Glunz, of Eldridge; his nieces, Marsha Deeds, and her husband, Mike, of Bettendorf and Gertrude Anderson, of Denver, Colorado; his nephews, Daniel Glunz and his wife, Michelle, of Long Grove, Iowa, Richard Glunz, and his wife Shelby, of Port Orchard, Washington, Mitch Glunz, and his wife, Cindy, of Norway, Iowa, Dean Glunz, and his wife, Sheryl, of Eldridge, Myron Anderson, and his wife, Pam, of Eldridge, and Lynn Anderson, and his wife, Tara, of Huntsville, Alabama.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Bernice Anderson; his brothers, Eldon and Melvin; and his nephew, Allen.
