A memorial gathering for Johnny M. Wooten, 82, of Bettendorf will be Saturday, September 27, 2025 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf.

Johnny passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at his daughter’s home in Davenport.

Johnny was born on July 10, 1943, in Mississippi, the son of Cecil and Sylvia (Greene) McGahey. He graduated from Bettendorf High School in 1963. He married Linda Chestnut in Davenport on December 31, 1962. She preceded him in death on February 22, 2024. Johnny worked for the Bettendorf Police Dept where he served as a Police Officer for 10 years. He also worked for Cat Scales as a Service Tech, retiring in 2005. He served in the National Guard for eight years.

He enjoyed genealogy, leather crafting and was a Bettendorf Bulldog Fan.

Survivors include his children, Johnny Wooten and his wife, Dee. of Friendship, WI, Sheeny (Terry) Black of Davenport, Jennifer Cale of Davenport, six grandchildren, Jake, Katie, Chris, Ryan, Danielle, Austin, eight great-grandchildren, brother, William “Bo” Wooten of Columbus, MS and a cousin, Dale Reese of Caledonia, MS. Several nieces and nephews. Brother in law Jeff Chestnut and wife Jolene.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Linda.
