Jon Kucharo

August 28, 1947 — January 24, 2020

Jon S. Kucharo, 72, of Bettendorf passed away peacefully due to complications from kidney failure on Friday, January 24, 2020 with his son by his side at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 10:00 a.m. – Noon on Monday, February 10th at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home.  Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Inurnment will be at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery at a later date.

Jon was born on August 28, 1947 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of the former mayor of Bettendorf, Donald and Billie (Stanford) Kucharo.  Following his graduation from Bettendorf High School, he served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam from 1967 – 1969.  Jon was a 100% wounded warrior and was proud of his service to his country.  In 1974, he married Marie Kerofsky.  Jon worked as a crane operator at Alcoa prior to his retirement in 2004.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, music, billiards, doing home improvement projects, and having great conversations.

Those left to honor his memory are his son, Jon T. Kucharo of Bettendorf; step-daughter, Sherry Griffin; grandchildren, Cobee Prieto Kucharo of St. Louis, Missouri, Brice Reddish of Moline, Alexander D. Wilken of Bettendorf; and his former wife, Marie Kucharo.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Don Kucharo Jr.

The family would like to thank the staff and doctors at Fresenius Kidney Care, the Veterans Administration, and Trinity Medical Center for their exceptional care and support.
