A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph Ragona Jr. will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Long Grove. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be at St. Ann’s Cemetery.
Joseph Ragona Jr., 87, of Donahue, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at his home in Donahue, IA.
Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Joseph was born on December 13, 1938, in Centerville, IA, the son of Joseph and Dianna (Kennis) Ragona, Sr. He married Peggy J. Munro on August 11, 1963, in Centerville, IA. She preceded him in death on January 20, 2025.
Joe graduated from Centerville High School and attended Centerville Community College where he received an Associated degree. Joseph then attended Northeast Missouri State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary and a master’s degree in Elementary Guidance and Administration. Joseph served as Principal for John Glenn Elementary School, Donahue, IA from 1970-2000. He also served on the board for the Scott County Library from 2000-2019.
He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Long Grove, IA., and member of The Knights of Columbus St. Ann's Council #14695, Long Grove, Iowa, where he served as a 4th degree Knight.
Survivors include his son, Robert Ragona of Donahue, IA, grandsons, Brian Weaver, Michael Weaver, and Charles “Chuck” Weaver; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Charlie, Kaiden, Kristin and Ramona.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Peggy, daughter, Kristin Weaver and brothers, Paul, Andrew, John, Charles and sisters, JoAnn and Jeannie, son-in-law, Aldus Weaver.
