Judith Ann
Codling
July 18, 1960 – May 2, 2026
The world suffered a profound loss in the early hours of Saturday, May 2, under the glow of the Full Flower Moon. Judith Ann “Judy” Codling, 65, of Bettendorf, Iowa, passed away peacefully at UnityPoint Health in Bettendorf.
A community prayer service to honor Judy’s life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Family and friends are invited to gather from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service to share memories and support one another. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause close to the family’s heart.
Judy was born on July 18, 1960, a West End Girl from Rock Island, Illinois. She dedicated more than 40 years to the manufacturing industry, where her work ethic and attention to detail ensured excellence in everything she touched. She took great pride in her role, working alongside major partners and bringing both care and heart to her work each day.
Above all, Judy was devoted to her family. She was a loving wife, a proud and deeply supportive mother, and an extraordinary grandmother. She worked tirelessly to give her son every opportunity in life, and nothing brought her more joy than being “Grammy” to Eleanor Jude. She was present in every moment—known for her thoughtful, detailed notes of care throughout the day—small acts that reflected a very big love.
Judy was relentlessly kind and positive, always finding ways to make others smile and feel seen. Her warmth was unmistakable—every room she entered was brighter because she was in it.
She shared more than 42 years of marriage with her husband, Tom. Together, they built a life full of love, memories, and meaningful traditions, including their cherished trips to Door County and their weekly drives around town, often checking in on the horses and goats along Valley Drive.
Those who will continue to carry Judy’s memory in their hearts include her husband, Tom; her son, Jesse, her daughter-in-law Emily Codling; and her treasured granddaughter, Eleanor Jude Codling. She is also remembered by her sister, Karen Franks; her brothers, David Sheil, Bob Sheil, and Tom Sheil; and countless extended family members and friends.
If you are reading this, Judy would want you to remember: the quality of your life is shaped by how you treat others. Love is not something you simply receive—it is something you create. Fulfillment comes not from what you take, but from what you give.
Her son Jesse and her husband Tom will carry the weight—and the gift—of her tremendous love with them for a long time.
