Kay Ortel

Kay Ortel, 88, transitioned January 28, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Davenport, Iowa.

Coming from humble beginnings during the Great Depression in the Dust Bowl. (not a FBS sanctioned bowl), he made it through high school, lettering in three sports and winning two state championships.

After being drafted during the forgotten war in which he was a corporal once for almost two months, he attended two universities, joined Mensa and retired with 34 years of service with the Department of the Army.

With his wife of 63 years, Yolanda, they did their best to raise three kids: Kimberly of Florida, Kathryn of Pennsylvania, and Christopher of Rock Island.

Private graveside services and interment will be accorded at the Rock Island National Cemetery.
