Keith V. Gillam, 79, a resident of LeClaire, Iowa died on Thursday, September 7, 2006 at the Iowa Masonic Health Facility in Bettendorf, Iowa.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 12, 2006 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. The family will greet friends from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice or to the family.
He was born March 19, 1927 in Brandon, Iowa, the son of Clayton P. & Mayce B. (Underwood) Gillam. On October 14, 1949, he was united in marriage to Marge A. Ahlgren in Rock Island, Illinois.
Keith was employed as a mill operator at the Alcoa Company for over 34 years, retiring in May of 1989. Following retirement, he & Marge were employed as a tour guide and a gift shop clerk on an old gold mining dredge near Stanley, Idaho. They later worked for the Rock Island Corps of Engineers as a camp host and caretaker at Shady Creek in Muscatine, Iowa.
Keith & Marge loved to travel in their RV and spent many enjoyable miles together exploring the country. He also enjoyed feeding & watching the birds, automobile racing, especially NASCAR and caring for his flower gardens.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army-Air Corps as a special vehicle operator in Kwajalein, Marshall Islands and was honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1946.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Marge; his sons, John (Dana) Gillam of DeWitt, Iowa and Kenny (Pamela) Gillam of Davenport, Iowa; his grandchildren, Johnny Dale Gillam, Kimberly Anne Gillam, Jessica Rose Gillam and David Martin; his great-grandson, Ryan Gillam; his sisters, Valeriae Meyerman of Clinton, Iowa and Ruth Liles of Chicago, Illinois; and many nieces & nephews including Pam & Keith Holst of Princeton, Iowa.
Keith was preceded in death by his brothers, Laurel, Dale, William & Don.
