Kenneth E. Keiser, 80, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus in Davenport, Iowa following a brief illness.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 19, 2005 at Asbury United Methodist Church, Bettendorf where he was a faithful member. Interment will be private. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Memorials may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, the Arthritis Foundation or to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Ken was born November 16, 1924 in Davenport, the son of Elmer & Mabel (Anderson) Keiser. On July 27, 1958, he was united in marriage to Shirley Larue Robinson at the First United Methodist Church, Ft. Worth, Texas.
He retired on December 1, 1989 as Chief Accountant of the Royal Neighbors of American, Rock Island, Illinois where he served for 35 years.
Ken served in WW II with the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. He parachuted into Normandy, France shortly after midnight on D-Day, several miles behind enemy lines. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for injuries sustained during the advancement towards Carentan.
In addition to the church, he was a life-member of the National Association of Accountants, a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. In addition, he was a LOMA Fellow, a member of the Insurance, Accounting & Systems Association and was an 8-gallon blood donor.
Ken was an avid bridge player, enjoyed traveling, reading, doing crossword puzzles, playing chess and golf (highlighted by a hole-in-one on #13 at Palmer Hills!)
Those left to honor his memory include his beloved wife, LaRue; his children & their spouses, Keith & Wanda Keiser of Davenport, Joyce & Fritz Prohl of Bettendorf, Kimberly & Alan Bossart of Centennial, Colorado and Ken & Donna Keiser Jr. of Kansas City, Missouri; his son-in-law & spouse, Richard & Jill Hooke in Australia; his grandchildren, Kyle, Corey & CJ Bossart, Carly Keiser, Kari Hooke, Tracy Bach, Sally Shore & her husband, Craig, Lindsay Horton and Katy & Emma Hooke; his great-grandchildren, Thomas Bach & McKenzie Shore; his sisters, Arlene Smith of Bettendorf and Mardel Simpson & her husband, Jack of Davenport; and his brother, Marvin Keiser of Bettendorf.
Ken was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara in 1978; and by his parents.
