Lillian Juanita (Nita) Myers, age 93, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa and formerly of Fort Smith, Arkansas died Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at the Bettendorf Healthcare Center.
Mrs. Myers was born August 15, 1911 in Fort Smith to Reginald M. & Elizabeth E. (Shibley) Armstrong. She married William R. (Bill) Myers in May of 1935 in Fort Smith. He preceded her in death on March 10, 1990. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Virginia Jett, Mary Garret and Frances Crosslin; and by two brothers, Reginald Jr. and George W. who was killed during the invasion of Normandy in World War II.
She is survived by two daughters, Patsy R. Hallendorff who is retired to Berryville, Arkansas from California where she was a well-known entertainer for many years and Peggy L. Myers of Bettendorf who is a school teacher in Davenport, Iowa. She is also survived by four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Nita & Bill lived and owned various businesses in southern California for 40 years, retiring to the Fort Smith, Arkansas area where they both had family & friends. In 1989, they moved to Bettendorf, Iowa where Bill passed away in 1990. Nita had been in a nursing home for the past 5 years in Bettendorf.
Mrs. Myers was a forthright, loving, giving, caring & vivacious woman all of her life and a good Christian. She will be missed.
There will be a graveside service at 1:00 P.M. Friday, March 4, 2005 at Forest Park Cemetery in Fort Smith. Contributions in her memory may be made to the local Humane Society. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.
