Lisa was born in Ames, Iowa, on November 21, 1964, the daughter of Rodney and Virginia (Risse) Fichtner. She earned her associate’s degree from Des Moines Area Community College and later received her Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting from the University of Iowa.
On August 22, 1986, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Bradley J. Knous, in Ames. In her early years, Lisa worked in the accounting field and business management before devoting her time to caring for her family.
Lisa was active, creative, and full of life. She loved knitting, served multiple terms as PTA president, and was deeply involved in school activities—especially those connected to music and the music boosters. She never turned down an opportunity to be with family and participate in any of the crazy activities they drug her along on. She enjoyed working out, cherished family cookouts and evenings gathered around a fire pit. Once her twins joined the ISU Marching Band, she became an avid Iowa State football fan and was always excited to tailgate, attend the games and be “game day ready”. Lisa was a loving wife, devoted mother, and steadfast friend who was always willing to help where help was needed. She had a quick wit, a beautiful laugh, and a genuine love for life in all its moments.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband Bradley; her children Finn “David”, Bret and Luke Knous; mother, Virginia Long; father, Rodney Fichtner; sister, Lori (Bret) Crandall; brother, Lee Fichtner; step-sister, Tawnya (Aaron) Bauch; step-brother, Todd Thorson; “daughters-by-choice,” Faith and Sierra; mother-in-law, Arlene Knous; siblings-in-law, Brenda (Bryan) Swenson, Trina (Mark) DeMott, Lauren (Kristi) Knous, and Brian Knous; father-in-law’s wife, Shirley Knous; along with many other extended family members and cherished friends.
She was preceded in death by her stepmother Carolyn Fichtner; stepfather, Jack Long; and her father-in-law, Gary Knous.
