Margaret R. “Peg” Nelson, 86, of Bettendorf, Iowa, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2026 at her daughter’s home in Illinois City, Illinois.
Her funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, April 16, 2026 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services on Thursday at the funeral home. Private committal services will be held at Pine Hill Cemetery in Davenport, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House.
Peg was born May 17, 1939 in Davenport, the daughter of Harold B. & Dorothy E. (Willey) Olson. She was united in marriage to Homer E. Nelson on November 27, 1965 in Davenport. He preceded her in death on April 14, 2009.
Peg was employed as a personnel coordinator with Hy-Vee, starting in Rock Island and retiring from Moline in 2002. She enjoyed bowling and golfing in earlier years and tending to her garden and plants. Peg enjoyed the company of her family, especially her grandchildren; doing crafts, playing cards and backgammon.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Kathleen (Jeff) Fuhr of Illinois City, Illinois, Ann (Scott) Taylor of Bettendorf and Lydia (Chuck) Iverson of Sherrard, Illinois; her sons, Dan (Cheryl) Heidt of Oak Harbor, Washington, Mark Heidt of Davenport and Robert (Jill) Nelson of Davenport; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews including a special mention to Cindy Nelson-Meldrum, who was very close with Peg.
In addition to her husband, Homer, Peg was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Larry Heidt; her sisters, Patricia Layton, Lillian Williamson and Mary Olson; and her brothers, Harold Olson and James Olson.
