She was a talented seamstress, quilter, happy traveler, and loving wife, mother and friend. Evelyn had a special love of her time in water aerobics with her friends at the Bettendorf Fitness Center along with her Bridge and Mexican Train dominoes at Masonic. Evelyn was an inspiration to all who knew her for her indomitable spirit and kind heart.

Evelyn was born on White Pigeon farm in Wilton Junction, Iowa and grew up in Iowa City, Iowa and later Des Moines, Iowa.  Evelyn graduated from East Des Moines High School and during World War II, she worked as a secretary at Solar Air Craft, Des Moines.

Evelyn met Paul Newlin, her future husband, at Fort Dodge Field where they were each taking flying lessons. They later married on October 15, 1944.

Evelyn and Paul farmed in rural Iowa for ten years before moving to Des Moines with their four young children in 1957.

In Des Moines, Evelyn worked in the Real Estate department at Drake University from 1965 to 1983. During this time, she also completed her course requirements at Drake to graduate with a Liberal Arts degree.

Upon retirement, Evelyn and Paul moved to Lake Panorama for 18 years and then moved to Masonic Village in Bettendorf in 2001.

Paul died in 2006 and Evelyn continued to live in Masonic Village for a total of 20 years.  She was most recently a resident at Senior Star in Davenport, Iowa.

Evelyn is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Jacqueline and Clayton Naylor of Moline, Illinois, Judith and Edward Lawrence of Green Valley, Arizona and Patricia and Robert Damon of San Diego, California; six grandchildren, Tina Barr, Gwendoly Naylor, Peter Naylor, Pamela Mackinson, Andrew Damon and Kathleen Youngberg; nine great-grandchildren; and her cat, Mason.

Evelyn was preceded in death by Paul, her beloved husband of 62 years; two sisters; two brothers and her son, Brian Paul Newlin.
