Martha Elna LaFayette, 83, a resident of Davenport and formerly of Riverdale, Iowa, died Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at the Kahl Home for the Aged, Davenport.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, February 12, 2005 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. today at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf where a prayer service will be conducted at 8:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to the Kahl Home or the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
Elna was born July 7, 1921 in Letts, Iowa, the daughter of George W. & Mabel (Wagner) Bailey and was a graduate of Letts High School. She was united in marriage to John A. LaFayette on August 31, 1942 in Kahoka, Missouri. He preceded her in death on September 23, 1990.
Elna was employed as an Avon Representative for 32 1/2 years. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends, doing crossword puzzles and traveling.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Betty Hamilton & her husband, Bill of LeClaire, Iowa, Barb Menke & her husband, Steve of Lawrence, Kansas, and Cindy Harrison of Des Moines, Iowa; her sons and daughters-in-law, Doug & Cathy LaFayette of Staten Island, New York and Randy & Vicki LaFayette of Riverdale, Iowa; fourteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her special friend and companion Mel Sarver; and her brother Lyman Bailey, of Terrill, Iowa.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her sons Gary, Daniel and Dale; and her brothers, Earl, Ray, Phil and Art.
