Mary Ellen Gillin

Mary Ellen Gillin, 84, of Bettendorf, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, IA. There are no services being planned at this time.

Mary Ellen Rowland was born on March 8, 1942, in Davenport, the daughter of Ernest and Nina Mae (Osborn) Rowland. She graduated from Davenport High School. She married William C. Gillin at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Davenport, IA, on October 19, 1962. He preceded her in death on December 27, 2019. Mary attended American Institute of Commerce and had worked for Alter Co. Bill and Mary were partners at Gillin Construction in Bettendorf for many years before retiring. Mary was also employed at the diet center in Bettendorf and Davenport. She was a former member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Davenport, IA.

Survivors include her daughter, Suzanne Gillin of Bettendorf; son, Tim Gillin of Las Vegas, NV; five grandchildren, Destiny (Kyle) Johnson, Lauren (Zachary) Stearman, Adam Schoonover, Stephen Houston, Domnick Fleming; two step-grandchildren, Veronica Miller and Makayla Fleming; five great-grandchildren, Scarlett Stearman, Ivy Stearman, Olive Stearman, Sedona Johnson, Zepplein Johnson; son-in-law, Mike Fleming and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband a daughter, Julia Fleming, and brothers, Robert Rowland and Thomas Rowland.
