Matthew Alan Rueter, 50, of Davenport died Thursday, February 9, 2023, while vacationing in Jamaica.

A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 23rd at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.  Services will be live streamed and may be viewed by visiting Matt’s obituary at www.McGinnis-Chambers.com and clicking on the link provided.  A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Illinois Room at the Waterfront Convention Center, 2021 State Street, Bettendorf.  Casual attire is encouraged.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or Give Kids the World Village.

Matthew was born Aug. 22, 1972, in Postville, Iowa, to Alan R. and Mary (Kimberly) Rueter. He was educated at Central DeWitt Community Schools and Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island.  He was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity, where his brothers fondly referred to him as “Iowa.”

Matt married Penny Perkins, the love of his life, June 21, 2003, at Olde St. Ann’s Church, Long Grove. He loved being an uncle to many nieces and nephews, who adored him and referred to him as “Uncle M-A-T.” He was “Papi” to four grandchildren.

He enjoyed golf, camping, travel, playing with Santo and Walter, his and Penny’s beloved French bulldogs, time with family and friends, and checking out the newest and best restaurants. He cherished the Perkins family as much as his own. He was the ultimate Iowa State Cyclones fan and a staunch and loyal supporter and long-suffering fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears.

For more than 25 years, Matt was a senior investment advisor with the Bettendorf Financial Group. He took great pride in protecting the financial wellbeing of families he served.

Surviving are his wife, Penny of Davenport; his mother, Mary Rueter of DeWitt; sister, Kris Boll of Moline, Illinois; brothers, David of DeWitt and Kyle (Amanda) of Eagle Lake, Minnesota; step-children, Kim Sonnenberg of Chicago and Kevin Neilson of Davenport; and grandchildren, Nate Gwinn,  Zander Neilson and Benjamin and Louisa Sonnenberg; brothers and sisters-in-law, Cheryl and Dennis Smith of Bettendorf, Bobbie Walker of Walcott, David Lee Perkins of Davenport, Wayne and Denise Perkins of Bettendorf,  and Cindy Perkins of Morris, Illinois. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of friends,

He was preceded in death by his father, parents-in-law, grandparents, brothers-in-law, Dan Perkins and John Walker, and a niece, Regan Smith.
