Michael Richard Kernan, 78, a resident of Princeton, passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at Genesis Medical Center – East Campus, Davenport.
A time of remembrance will be held from 10:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, December 5, 2021 at the Boll’s Community Center in Princeton. Inurnment will take place at a later date at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois. Cremation rites have been accorded.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. Michael was born on April 15, 1943 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Paul and Dorothy (Keefe) Kernan. He married Suellen French in March of 1972 in Bettendorf, Iowa. She preceded him in death on March 13, 2013. He attended St. Ambrose University where he received a degree in Business. He spent four years of his life in the Air Force serving in Europe and around the Mediterranean Sea. He served 20 years in the Princeton City Council and five years on the city board of Adjustment. He was past-president of the Mississippi Valley Restaurant Association, past board member of the Iowa Restaurant Association, past-president of Princeton Days and Grand Marshall in 2011 with his wife Sue., past board member of the Bettendorf Chamber of Commerce, and member of the American Legion Buffalo Bill Post #347.
He worked at the family business, the El Rancho Villa Restaurant in Bettendorf and later owned Kernan’s Riverview Restaurant in Princeton with Suellen Kernan and family. Michael served in the U.S Air Force during the Vietnam Era.
He enjoyed playing golf and in his early years he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his children and their spouses; Kevin (Jennifer) Kernan of Princeton, Iowa., Sean Kernan of Kewanee, Illinois, Amy Kernan of Princeton, Iowa; step-children; Chuck (Diane) Seitz of Princeton, Iowa., Tami Seitz (Steve Judge) of LeClaire, Iowa, granddaughter; Maisey “Fuzzy” Kernan , four step-grandchildren; sisters; Colleen (Rod) Morthland of Princeton, Iowa, and Patty (Rudy) Morgan of Princeton, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Suellen, four sisters and two brothers.
