Obituary

Nancy L. Stevens, 74, of Bettendorf, Iowa, and formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Bettendorf Healthcare Center, where she had made her home in recent years.

A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held at a later date. In honor of her generous spirit, memorials may be made to the American Red Cross or to her family. Chambers Funeral Home of Eldridge is assisting with arrangements.

Nancy was born on September 3, 1951, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, to William R. “Ross” and Reba V.A. (Hanna) Stevens. She graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor’s degree in political science and journalism—fields that reflected her love of storytelling and her interest in the world around her.

Nancy spent many years as a journalist, including her time with the Cedar Rapids Gazette and earlier with the Monticello Express. She had a gift for capturing the stories of others and sharing them with care and integrity. After retiring from journalism, she began a second career as a realtor in Cedar Rapids, where she found joy in helping people find not just houses, but homes.

Giving back to others was an important part of Nancy’s life. She was a devoted volunteer with the American Red Cross and shared her time and guidance as a Girl Scout troop leader. Her faith was also central to her life—she was an active member of Kenwood United Methodist Church, where she especially loved singing in the choir.

Nancy found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. She enjoyed knitting, tending to her garden, and spending time camping outdoors. She will be remembered for her kind heart, her gentle presence, and the quiet ways she made a difference in the lives of those around her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sister, Linda Mohr of Welton, Iowa; her nieces, Colleen Huber of DeWitt, Iowa, and Heather Mohr of Welton; and her nephews, Willy (Dee) Mohr of Moline, Illinois, and Richard (Renae) Mohr of Donahue, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Gail Stevens; her brother-in-law, William Mohr; and her parents.

Online condolences may be shared with her family at www.McGinnis-Chambers.com.
