Patrick J. Flynn, 66, of Davenport, Iowa, died peacefully at his home on Monday, July 20, 2026. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family for a scholarship fund to be established in Patrick’s honor, supporting future engineers and tradesmen.

Patrick was born in Gary, Indiana, on November 26, 1959, the son of Robert and Cecile (Waldron) Flynn. He graduated from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, and went on to build a long, meaningful career as a self‑employed engineer.

On April 26, 1986, Patrick married Ruth A. Musser in Ottawa, Illinois, beginning a life centered on family, faith, and hard work. Patrick loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, and he found joy outdoors, especially in gardening.

Patrick is survived by his wife, Ruth; his daughters, Julia Ann (Joe) Stokowski of Gainesville, Georgia, and Sarah Beth Flynn of Davenport; his sons, Stephen (Kelsey) Flynn of Des Moines, Iowa, John Paul (Carolynn Wiseman) Flynn of Bozeman, Montana, and James (Meghan Spears) Flynn of Norwalk, Iowa. He is also survived by his grandchildren Ruby, Teddy, Georgiana, Callie, Markie, and Henry.

Patrick leaves behind his sisters Meg (Greg Fiflis) of Indian Head Park, Illinois, and Beth Flynn of Crown Point, Indiana; and his brothers Tom (ZoAnn) Flynn of Bowling Green, Kentucky, John (Linda) Flynn of Ft. Collins, Colorado, David (Kathy) Flynn of Naperville, Illinois, and Dan Flynn of Plano, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Cecile Flynn.

Patrick will be remembered for his steady presence, his devotion to family, and his engineer’s mind paired with a gardener’s heart.

With their last breath

those we have greatly loved

do not say good-bye -

Instead, they leave us with

a solemn promise -

when they are finally at rest with God,

they will continue to be present to us

whenever they are called upon.

Let us not grieve

-beyond letting go-

for in the Tree of Life

their roots and ours

are forever 

intertwined.
