Patrick Edwin McLeaney, 91, of Bettendorf, passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at his home in Bettendorf. Inurnment will take place at the Rock Island National Cemetery, at a later date.
Patrick was born on March 1, 1935, in Davenport, IA, the son of Eugene and Annette (McColloch) McLeaney. He graduated from Bettendorf High School and, joined the U.S. Air Force and served during the Vietnam War from 1954-1957. He married Ruth Krumholz in Fairmont, MN on July 11, 1959. Patrick served as a mail carrier for the U.S. Post Office for 35 years in Bettendorf, retiring in 1992.
He shared 66 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Ruth, and together they found great joy in spending Saturday evenings out dancing with dear friends. Pat devoted 35 years to the United States Post Office, faithfully delivering mail throughout Bettendorf and becoming a familiar, friendly presence in the community. Along the way, he collected many memorable stories about the dogs he encountered on his route, some friendly and some a little less so. He was an avid reader who especially loved military history, and he treasured time spent camping, canoeing, and enjoying summer trips to northern Minnesota. In retirement, he looked forward to weekend ATV rides with friends. Pat was deeply proud of his Irish heritage, and nothing meant more to him than his children and grandchildren. The love, wisdom, and steady presence he gave to his family will remain in their hearts for years to come.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth of Bettendorf, sons, Michael (Renee) McLeaney of Eagan, MN., Brian McLeaney of Newington, CT, grandchildren, Connor McLeaney of Augusta, ME, Quinn McLeaney of Falmouth, ME, and sister Anita Reel of Spokane, WA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Clara Baker and Jeanne Smith.
