Raymond Larson

Raymond L. “Ray” Larson, 85, a resident of Davenport, Iowa and formerly of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Sunday, October 17, 2021, at his home following an extended illness.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, October 22, 2021, at St. James Lutheran Church of Bettendorf where he was a devoted and long-time member.  Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bettendorf Lions Club, St. James Lutheran Church or the CASI Chorus.

He was born in Armstrong, Iowa on July 5, 1936, the son of Sam and Irene (Anderson) Larson.  On June 16, 1957, he was united in marriage to Patricia Martin in Lamoni, Iowa.

Ray was employed as an auditor for the State of Iowa Department of Revenue from 1960 until his retirement in 1995.

He was a 50-year member and past-president of the Bettendorf Lions Club, member of the Bettendorf Jaycees and the CASI Golden Tones Chorus. Ray coached Little League Baseball and ran the Bix-7 for many years.  He enjoyed bowling, playing golf, collecting coins and stamps and especially loved watching his children and grandchildren’s activities, sports events and careers.

Those left to honor his memory include his beloved wife, Pat; his daughter, Suzi (René) Sandoval of Silvis, Illinois; his sons, Richard (Annette) Larson and Mark (Martha) Larson, all of Minnesota; his grandchildren, Jess Larson, Justin Larson, Megan Larson, Nicole Larson, Brandon Sandoval, Brian (Alyse) Sandoval, Stefanie (Tyler) McLaughlin, Matthew (Elly) Larson, Maggie (Jake) McNeece, Sadie Johnson and Bobby Johnson; his great-grandchildren, Grayson Larson, Easton Larson, Nina Johnson, Emmi McLaughlin, Maddy McLaughlin, Livy Sandoval and Louie Sandoval; his sister, Ann Larson of Davenport; his brother, Art (Donna) Larson of Mesa, Arizona; his sisters-in-law, Marianne Jensen of Davenport and Karen Coakley of Glendale, Arizona; and his brother-in-law, John (Michele) Martin of Davenport.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers-in-law, Kerry Jensen, Bob Coakley and Jim Martin; and his parents-in-law, Don and Rose Martin.
