Rev. Vernon Sorensen

Rev. Vernon M. Sorensen, 88, of Bettendorf, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2022 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport, Iowa.

His memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Asbury United Methodist Church in Bettendorf.  Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) or to Asbury United Methodist Church.

Vern was born August 31, 1934 in Portland, Maine, the son of Rev. Morton & Bertha (Bore) Sorensen.  He was united in marriage to Sylvia J. Adkins on May 22, 1960 in Wilmington, Delaware.

Vern was a United Methodist Pastor for thirty-five years.  He was educated at Colby College in Waterville, Maine and received his Master’s in Divinity at Crozer Theological Seminary in Pennsylvania.  He also received his Master’s in Sacred Theology at Iliff School of Theology in Denver, Colorado.

Vern and Sylvia enjoyed traveling for many years.  He had also enjoyed reading.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Sylvia; his daughters Debra Gallington of La Porte, Texas and Lisa Sorensen of Washington, DC; his sons, Stephen (Brenda) Sorensen of Long Grove, Iowa and Mark Sorensen (Robert Wilkinson) of Wilmington, North Carolina; his grandchildren, Jonah, Maureen, David and Rachel; and his great-granddaughter, Chloe.

Vern was preceded in death by his parents.
