Obituary

Richard L. “Dick” Stotlar, 80, a resident of Bettendorf, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2026 at The Vistas in Bettendorf. He was surrounded by the love of his family.

Visitation will be from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 2, 2026, at Bettendorf Presbyterian Church where he was a longtime member. He will be laid to rest with military honors at 2:00 p.m. at the Rock Island National Cemetery honoring his service to our country. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bettendorf Presbyterian Church, YMCA youth programs or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Dick was born in Davenport, Iowa on October 18, 1945, the son of Robert and Murial {Johnson) Stotlar and was a 1963 graduate of Bettendorf High School. In 1964, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served until he was honorably discharged in 1966 as a Seaman 3rd Class. Following the Navy, he was a police officer with the Bettendorf Police Department before launching Dick’s Excavating in Bettendorf for many years, which he owned and operated, retiring in 2001. Through his work, he helped shape the very ground beneath the community that he loved.

On October 22, 1997, he was united in marriage to Lynn A. Kotacka Wooten in Rock Island, Illinois. Dick wholeheartedly embraced her daughters, Tammy and Chrissy, as his own. Family meant everything to Dick. He found joy in gathering around the table, cheering from the sidelines, and being present for the everyday moments that matter most. His grandchildren were a particular source of pride and happiness.

In addition to the church, he was a member of the Bettendorf American Legion and had many friends at the Bettendorf YMCA. He treasured his time spent hunting and fishing. He is probably already fishing with his best friend Ernie. Dick was a devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and attended opening day for many years.

In addition to Lynn, those left to honor his memory include his daughters, Tammy (Ajay) Wooten-Singh of Davenport, IA, Chrissy (Kenny) Hideman of Middlebury, IN, and Dawn Stotlar of DeWitt, IA; his daughter-in-law, Debbie (Monte) Moorehead of Davenport, IA; his son, Rich (Angie) Stotlar of Pleasant Valley, IA; his grandchildren, Cameron, Richie, Sydney, Aidan, Karlee, Annie, Kylar and Colton; his brother, Brian (Carol) Stotlar of Madison, WI, and many extended family and dear friends. He will also be missed by his weekend domino/pizza gang and the lunch bunch.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
