Robert C. Schiffke

Robert C. Schiffke, 91, of LeClaire passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 10, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, with a Rosary at 7:00 pm, at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Visitation will also be held on Friday, September 11, 2026 at Our Lady of the River from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A  funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 11:00 am at Our Lady of the River Catholic Church, LeClaire. Inurnment will be at Rock Island National Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Buffalo Bill Post #347. Memorials may be directed to the Buffalo Bill Museum, LeClaire.

Robert was born on August 29, 1935, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Carl and Mildred (Daasch) Schiffke. Following high school, he continued his education at Central Connecticut State College where he earned his bachelor’s degree and later his master’s degree from Syracuse University. He served in the U.S. Army following the Korean War. On May 17, 1958, he married Caroline Czerwinski in Kensington, Connecticut. She preceded him in death on June 10, 2011. Robert taught science for the Davenport School District for 34 years. He also served as the director for the Buffalo Bill Museum since 2010. His memberships included the National Education Association, Buffalo Bill Museum, Lions Club, American Legion, LeClaire Civic Club, and Knights of Columbus. In his spare time, Robert enjoyed wood carving and gardening.

Those left to honor his memory are his daughters, Lynne Schiffke, Deborah Pinczer, (Mike Fennesy), Barbara (Todd) Meyer, Sara Schiffke; seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, four great great-grandchildren; and brother, Kenneth (Susine) Schiffke.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline; brother Donald Schiffke, and son-in-laws, Richie Frederick and David Hebbeln.
